This position may be performed from Williams Lake or Quesnel.
This is a temporary opportunity for a 2 year term. This temporary opportunity may become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established forfuturetemporary and permanent vacancieswithin the BC Timber Sales Cariboo Chilcotin Business Area.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications (Including ASFIT or FIT) may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.

BC Timber Sales (BCTS)manages about 20 per cent of the province's allowable annual cut forCrown timber,generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C.
Data from our operations are used to help determine the market value of the timber harvested from public land and ensures British Columbiansreceive fairvalue from their timber resources.
BCTS also supports government's commitment to true, lasting reconciliation with First Nations in BCas we move toward fully adopting and implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The goal of BCTS is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of timber harvested from public land in BC. BCTS has three objectives supporting its goal:
- Objective 1:Sell the full BCTS apportionment over the business cycle, consistent with safe practices, sustainable forest management, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
- Objective 2:Generate direct net revenue and indirect revenue for the Province over the business cycle.
- Objective 3:Continuous business improvement - within BCTS, across government and with third parties.

The Planning Forester analyzes and produces a wide range of data to develop integrated resource and operational plans, primarily the Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) and operating plans. The position develops and implements results and strategies to meet the FSP and ensures planning components meet legislative,operating, and certification requirements. The position provides functional direction to field team professionals and technicians with expertise in timber development, harvesting, engineering and silviculture. The position builds and maintains relationships with representatives from Indigenous Peoples, resource stakeholders, Ministry and industry contacts.
Williams Lake has a rich history regarding the Cariboo gold rush, and is located in a valley in the Interior Plateau of Central BC. Whitewater rafting and single track mountain biking are unique activities available in Williams Lake. The Williams Lake Stampede is one of the biggest rodeos in Western Canada, and pays tribute to its ranching history.
Known as "the Goldpan City", Quesnel has a rich past connected to the Cariboo gold rush, and is also known for its agricultural beauty. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirements as outlined below:
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) and two years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
- Operational field forestry activities include the following:
- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Planning integrated resource management
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
- Must be able to maintain membership with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals as a member in good standing.
- Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience
- Experience using Geographic Information Systems
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples
- Coursework or experience in contract or financial administration
