This position will be overseeing the entire extraction department. This individual will be a detail-oriented leader, who possesses strong planning and exceptional communication skills, who can work both independently and collaboratively with numerous teams. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.


  • Maintain laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas, identifying peak and slack periods, and recommending operational or staffing adjustments.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment performance by establishing and enforcing quality standards tied to standard operational procedures.
  • Certify instrument performance and calibration and arrange equipment service, repair and replacement and make recommendations on new equipment purchases.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of extraction lab to ensure that progress is on schedule and within the prescribed budget.
  • Develop and implement a progress plan to improve quality, productivity and throughput.
  • Ensure that personnel are properly trained in quality procedures, operating procedures (SOP's), Standard Test Method (STM's) and equipment specific requirements.
  • Review status reports prepared by personnel and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepare project reports for management, client, or others on a regular basis.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing orders and verifying receipt of supplies and reporting usage quarterly.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Investigate issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a M.Sc. in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences; PMP certification is an asset.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in a related field, preferably in an industrial setting.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience in a distribution or a process driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skill.
  • Ability to prioritize and successfully manage several projects of varying complexity simultaneously.
  • Experience preparing and presenting business cases.
  • Must be able to clearly explain technical issues and constraints to non-technical people in both verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of the emerging cannabis industry an asset.
  • Experience using LIMS is an asset
  • Experience working with off-site project team members is an asset.
  • Security Clearance will be requested for this position.
