Department Overview

Collateral Analytics sits within Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM) and supports TD Securities by managing collateral, margining, and exposure across OTC derivatives and secured financing portfolios. The team's primary mandate is to mitigate counterparty credit risk through proactive monitoring, dispute resolution, and regulatory-aligned controls.

Operating as a global, cross-product function, the team collaborates closely with Credit Risk, Front Office, Market Risk, Legal, and Operations to ensure accurate collateralization and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Job Description

An Analyst within CMRM Collateral Risk Management will primarily be focused on the effective and efficient mitigation of counterparty credit risk. The Analyst is responsible for supporting the end-to-end collateral lifecycle, including margin analysis, dispute investigation, risk monitoring, and regulatory reporting. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a time-sensitive environment.

The role will involve close partnership and interaction with a wide range of areas, including credit, middle office, legal, front office, settlements, and corporate treasury. As a result, the successful candidate will be required to possess strong communication skills.

Analysts within Collateral Risk Management are accountable for the following core responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor and analyze collateral exposures across OTC derivatives and secured financing portfolios
  • Investigate valuation discrepancies and margin disputes for variation margin and initial margin
  • Track and manage disputes to timely resolution, ensuring appropriate documentation and audit trail
  • Prepare daily, monthly, and ad hoc reports (e.g., exposure dashboards, policy monitoring, dispute reports)
  • Act as key point of contact for internal stakeholders (Front Office, Credit Risk, Legal, Operations)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues and improve processes
  • Drive process enhancements to improve automation, accuracy, and control effectiveness
  • Solid understanding of derivatives, repo/securities financing, and collateral management concepts
  • Familiarity with valuation drivers, margin methodologies (e.g., SIMM), and risk frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and identify issues

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in capital markets, collateral management, or risk
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, derivatives, or securities financing products
  • Familiarity with margining concepts, valuation drivers, and counterparty credit risk
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and quality control mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proactive, self-starter with strong problem-solving and ownership mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to engage effectively with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to investigate issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide clear, concise conclusions
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Python or other coding languages is considered an asset
  • Experience working with large datasets and performing data analysis
  • Familiarity with SIMM framework, Initial Margin, or regulatory margin requirements is considered an asset
  • CFA, FRM, or progress toward a professional risk/finance designation is an asset
