ARTS 4800 (Arts Practicum) Instructor

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Faculty of Arts is looking for faculty with relevant expertise and experience interested in being on the qualified faculty list to teach ARTS 4800: Arts Practicum.
This practicum course offers students a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in professional and research environments related to their field of study. Designed to support career exploration and preparation, the course helps students identify potential entry-level positions that align with their academic background.
Participants work under the joint supervision of a host employer and a KPU faculty supervisor, contributing to one or more projects that allow them to apply their academic knowledge and analytical skills in a real-world setting. In addition to workplace experience, students attend periodic in-class seminars that encourage critical reflection on their learning and professional growth. Students share their learnings at a final presentation day at the end of term that is open to the wider KPU community.
Ideal for students looking to bridge the gap between university and employment, this course is open to those with a declared Major or Minor in Asian Studies, English, Geography, Applied Geography, History, Journalism, Philosophy, or Policy Studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
*Note that although the course is scheduled during the Fall term when the students have placements with host organizations, preparation and admission for the course take place in the Spring and Summer via the Arts Practicum Committee. For their teaching year (and often beyond), practicum instructors serve on the Committee and contribute to this work.

SALARY INFORMATION:
The salary scale is based on full-time employment. Placement on this scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the scale is based on FTE and employment status.

- Have experience in community engagement and/or public outreach and/or industry/sector experience, with professional relationships outside academia
- Have outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Have a teaching or service experience with, and/or a publishing history concerning, work-integrated learning, co-operative education, career preparation, or other topics concerning professionalization.
- Have teaching experience beyond the lecture/exam model, such as inquiry-based teaching, with a demonstrated commitment student growth and relational approaches

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters required; PhD (completed or ABD) or sector/industry experience preferred in one of the above declared areas.
- Experience teaching upper-level courses in one or more of the above areas
- Interest in work-integrated learning, inquiry-based learning, experiential learning, and interdisciplinarity.
- Ability to teach in-person and travel to visit host organizations throughout the Lower Mainland.
- The successful candidate must be able to serve on the Arts Practicum committee during the summer term.
